Flooring installed before trim; paint sprayed before the floor is protected; cabinets set before the subfloor is leveled. Structural changes and load-bearing work
Opening a wall between a kitchen and living space, raising a ceiling, or reworking a floor plan means load paths are involved, not just drywall. We work directly with local licensed structural engineers on beam sizing and load transfer, handle the permit submittal, and carry it through inspection.
This is the part of an interior remodel most likely to go wrong when trades work independently, and it is the reason a general contractor is needed on a project like this.
Flooring
Flooring in this climate has to tolerate a house that swings between occupied and warm, and empty and cold, sometimes on a weekly basis.
On tile floors, we use Schluter Ditra uncoupling membrane rather than cement board because it isolates the tile from substrate movement. Subfloor leveling is its own line item and gets addressed before anything goes down, since an unlevel subfloor shows up later as cracked grout, hollow spots, and cabinet doors that will not sit right.
We install flooring as part of remodel scopes and as standalone replacements, and we bring in specialist installers for material-specific work, such as sheet vinyl or refinishing existing hardwood. Either way, the prep, the schedule, and the result are our responsibility.
Interior painting
Paint is the finish layer on a remodel, and the quality of the result is mostly decided before any paint is opened. Drywall finish level, prep, caulking, and masking are where a paint job is won.
We paint as part of the projects we build, where we control the substrate underneath and can stand behind the whole assembly. We also take on interior repaints on our own, and for larger repaints, we bring in painting crews we work with regularly and manage the prep and punch list ourselves.
One note on exterior finishes: staining and painting of exterior wood, including decks, railings, and exposed trim, is not carried in our base bids. We sub that work to finish specialists and quote it separately, so you see what it costs on its own rather than folded into a lump sum.

Do you handle interior work through the winter?
Yes. Interior scopes are not weather-dependent the way decks and exterior work are, so we run them year-round. The real winter variables are site access, snow storage, parking, and delivery timing, all of which get built into the schedule.
Do I need a permit for an interior remodel in Truckee?
It depends on scope. Finish work, like flooring, paint, and trim, generally does not. Moving plumbing or electrical, altering framing, and anything touching a load-bearing wall generally does. If your address is in unincorporated Placer or Nevada County rather than the Town of Truckee, requirements differ, and we confirm against that jurisdiction before quoting.
