Truckee Kitchen Remodel
Project Overview
Work began with demolition of the existing cabinets, appliances, and flooring. Once the old flooring and particle board overlay were removed, the subfloor was inspected, leveled with self leveling compound and a plywood overlay where needed, and verified flat with a straightedge before any new material went down.
Electrical rough in followed, with new circuits run for recessed can lighting throughout the kitchen, separate low voltage runs for under cabinet and toe kick lighting, a new dedicated dishwasher circuit, and a relocated refrigerator outlet to accommodate the fridge bump out. Backsplash outlets and switches were set at code required spacing along the countertop runs, with switch banks added at the kitchen entry and pantry. Drywall was hung and finished in the areas where wall material had been removed for the new layout, matched to the existing texture.
Client supplied LVP plank flooring and cork underlayment were acclimated on site, then installed across roughly 600 to 700 square feet spanning the kitchen, dining and family area, and living room, with transition strips set at each change in flooring type.
Client supplied graphite shaker cabinets were installed next, including a 96 inch pantry tower, a matching refrigerator tower, and a custom microwave and coffee station cabinet. Crown molding was run with a consistent reveal between the tower and upper cabinet heights, and end panels and stiles were scribed to the home's non square walls. A late layout change, identified during the cabinet walkthrough, required swapping in a replacement base cabinet to resolve a conflict with an electrical run.
An exterior vented duct run was installed for the range hood, framed through the exterior wall to a stainless chase and a wall cap with a backdraft damper, flashed and sealed against the siding. Electrical trim followed: recessed can lighting, under cabinet and toe kick LED strips, Decora switches and dimmers, and the dedicated circuit and connection for the client supplied range hood.
GoBoard tile backer was installed across the backsplash area for the homeowner's own tile work. Once the countertop was in, the sink, dishwasher, and refrigerator were reconnected and pressure tested. Two items were added by change order during the project: a reverse osmosis system plumbed under the sink, and an additional outlet in the adjoining living room.

Challenges & Solutions
A few conditions shaped how this project was sequenced.
The subfloor had a moisture caused ridge and a spongy feel in places, only fully visible once the old flooring and particle board overlay came out, which meant leveling and repair had to be worked out in the field rather than estimated in advance.
The kitchen's electrical scope went well beyond a typical remodel, with new circuits needed for recessed lighting, two separate low voltage accent lighting runs, a relocated refrigerator outlet for a fridge bump out, and a dedicated range hood circuit.
Cabinets, flooring, and the range hood were all client supplied, which meant coordinating delivery and install timing around outside vendors rather than an in house material order.
An electrical conflict found during the cabinet walkthrough required a replacement base cabinet mid install to keep the layout on plan.
The finished kitchen has updated cabinetry, real range ventilation, new flooring through the main living areas, and electrical capacity sized for how the space is actually used.
