Reno Primary & Hall Bath Remodel
Project Overview
Work began with floor protection run from the entry through both bathrooms and dust containment set up for the length of the project. In the primary bath, the existing tub and shower enclosure, toilet, and flooring up to the pocket door were removed down to framing. In the hall bath, the vanity, toilet, flooring, and baseboard were removed while the existing alcove tub was left in place to be rebuilt around.
In the primary bath, the walls were plumbed and squared for a waterproof panel installation, lateral blocking was added, and a niche was framed into the wall. The plumbing was reworked to relocate the mixing valve and shower drain and upgrade the drain to a 2-inch line, and a prefab acrylic shower base was set in place ahead of the wall finish.
Fibo waterproof wall panels in a smooth white finish were installed to manufacturer specification, trimmed around the existing window opening and built out around the niche. A herringbone mosaic tile was set at the shower threshold and across the bathroom floor, and new recessed LED lighting and a vent fan were added in the wet area. A semi-frameless hinged glass shower door with champagne bronze hardware and a matching shower system with a rain head and hand shower completed the walk-in shower.
In the hall bath, the area around the retained tub was rebuilt with new tile, drywall repairs were made and the room repainted, and a new single vanity with a quartz top and widespread faucet went in along with a new elongated toilet. Recessed lighting and a matching vent fan brought the hall bath's ventilation up to the same standard as the primary bath.
Once the hall bath tile was complete, a change order added a frameless sliding glass tub door and upgraded shower valve trim, both templated to the finished tile and installed near the end of the project.
Baseboard and door trim were installed throughout both bathrooms, punch list items including towel bars and toilet paper holders were completed, and debris was hauled off the site in dump trailer runs across the length of the project.

Challenges & Solutions
A few factors shaped how this project came together:
Two full bathrooms were opened up and rebuilt on the same schedule in an occupied home, with floor protection maintained from the entry through both work areas for the length of the project
Converting the primary bath from a tub and shower combo to a walk-in shower required relocating the mixing valve and shower drain and upgrading the shower drain to a 2-inch line
The hall bath's existing alcove tub was retained rather than replaced, so the new tile surround and blocking had to be built to match the tub's existing dimensions exactly
Fibo panel installation in the primary bath required trimming around an existing window opening and building a code-compliant niche into the panel system
A change order added a frameless sliding glass door and upgraded shower valve trim to the hall bath after the tile was finished, requiring templating to the as-built surfaces
Despite the added scope, both bathrooms were completed and turned over as finished, functioning spaces within the project's timeline.
