Prosser Bathroom Remodel

Project Overview

The project began with a full demolition of the existing tub(picking up where the homeowner left off), tile, and surrounding wall assemblies to expose the underlying framing and plumbing. Once opened, the framing was corrected and rebuilt to bring the walls back to plumb and square. The subfloor was leveled to create a proper foundation for the new tile installation.

The tub was removed and replaced with a custom walk-in shower built using a modern waterproofing system. Plumbing was reconfigured to accommodate the new shower layout, including a shower head and handheld wand. The shower design incorporated multiple niches and a small integrated shaving ledge to maximize functionality within the compact footprint.

The shower enclosure features vertical stacked ceramic tile walls, a hexagon mosaic shower floor, and a reused glass block feature that adds natural light while maintaining privacy. New ceramic tile flooring was installed throughout the bathroom to complement the shower design.

Electrical improvements included new lighting and proper ventilation to address the issues caused by the previous fan installation. The result is a highly functional, modern bathroom that maximizes both usability and visual impact within a relatively small footprint.

Challenges & Solutions

Several challenges had to be addressed during the renovation:

  • Walls were significantly out of plumb due to prior construction and repair attempts

  • The subfloor required leveling to support a proper tile installation

  • The layout required careful coordination to integrate multiple niches, glass block, and the shaving ledge within a compact space

  • Plumbing had to be relocated to accommodate the new walk-in shower system

  • Electrical and ventilation issues from a previous handyman installation needed to be corrected

Despite these constraints, the final design successfully transformed a failing tub/shower into a distinctive custom shower that blends modern materials with functional design elements.
